3 Reasons To Visit Gurney Plaza This Christmas Season

By Joel Teh

“Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh”…If you find yourself humming this familiar song repeatedly, it only means that the annual Christmas season is around the corner. The festivity usually bears a lot of excitement from the world as shoppers fill the malls, and everyone gets involved in gift exchange activities.

This year, however, is known as the year where massive gatherings are tabooed due to the rise of Covid-19 which, inadvertently, has brought the entire celebration into a different practice. While most people plan to have small family reunions or virtual sessions in this unprecedented time, we’d still encourage you to go shopping malls for fun as long as everyone adheres to the new norm and precautionary measures.

Situated strategically along Gurney Drive in Penang, Gurney Plaza is one of the popular shopping centres that you shouldn’t miss visiting for Christmas occasions. Despite the fall of the pandemic, the shopping mall is hosting an event- “HELLO! LONDON” with an array of attractive perks to all shoppers. Without further ado, here are the three reasons to get you to put Gurney Plaza as your top priority:

1. Christmas Decoration

Inspired by the Notting Hill district of West London, the decorations in the central atrium this year is simply astonishing- from the 40ft gigantic Christmas tree with glistering lights to the surrounding iconic landmark such as London’s red telephone booth, underground station signages, pubs, restaurants, and upscale boutique buildings- which make them all visually appealing for social media. Moreover, the Magical Christmas Light Show is commenced daily from 11th December 2020 to 3rd January 2021, 6-9pm with a moving light projected on the buildings of their little London town.

2. Iconic Medicare- In the Form of Double-decker Bus

As it’s essential to preserve healthy conditions in pandemic while enjoying Christmas to the fullest, Iconic Medicare, the manufacturer of medical disposable face masks is having its pop up store at the same venue from 7th December 2020 to 3rd January 2021 with a fine range of face masks to entertain the shoppers. Not only that they came with London’s iconic double-decker bus outlook that significantly portrays the theme, but they also offer limited edition face mask designs just for this roadshow.

3. ‘Shop & Win’ Contest and Weekly Redemptions

Most shopping centres make promotions and other exciting campaigns in conjunction with this festive season, but Gurney Plaza has two sub-events that would stir your exuberant energy instantly. The first campaign to look into is their redemption program with a list of rewards to be given out each week as attached in the image below.

On top of that, the most intriguing part of this year’s Christmas event in Gurney Plaza is HELLO! LONDON’s Shop & Win Shopping Contest which takes place every Saturday and Sunday from 12th December 2020 to 3rd January 2021. The first 120 shoppers with RM500 and above in a single or up to two combined same-day receipts will stand a chance to walk away with amazing prizes.

The way of getting into it is pretty simple. Once fulfilled the requirement, you are eligible to get a number at the central atrium and pick a door to choose any envelope from it. The paper in the envelope will reveal the prize you receive from this game. For more information about the listed prizes, you may also refer to the following poster.

Imagine if we could take a short break after staying grounded for too long, and gain self-recharging time with additional prizes in return, that would be an awesome experience in this wonderful year-end season. Your visitation to a shopping centre would also contribute to the growth of the retail and services industry, not just during Christmas, but in the long-run.
